Taking an eco-vacation on North Island, Seychelles truly feels like being at the edge of the world. Part of the tiny island nation of Seychelles, the island is less than 2 kilometers from end to end in a swatch of the Indian Ocean that is 1200 kilometers (approximately 700 miles) from the African mainland.
Reclaimed from a former coconut plantation for the purposes of eco-tourism, the island resort has had a highly positive impact on its environment by reintroducing (and in same cases expanding the population of) several endangered birds and tortoises. The interaction with wildlife on North Island is carefully controlled on land and at sea with a watch but do not touch policy. The eco-tourism haven is also active in the Support the Children in the Wilderness charity which promotes the importance of conservation and life skills to children.
Whether it’s a scuba-diving adventure, kayaking, cycling, island hopping, or a beachside retreat, North Island is able to accommodate in style. The dive and activity center at the Island Piazza includes a 45-meter pool, a library, a lounge, and services to arrange and adventure. The resort’s 11 thactched-roof villas were sculpted from local materials and the furnishings were handcrafted by local artists to reflect the natural beauty of the island. Each villa comes with a home cinema, a private butler, and an electric buggy so that guests can explore the untamed wilderness with complete independence.
