Amsterdam is famous for its cycling culture. In the mid-70’s the city inhabitants made a positive choice for an alternative to the then suggested traffic plan, rejecting projects to build huge motorways through the city, and instead implementing a network of cycle paths and mixed traffic roads all over town. Nowadays cycling in Amsterdam is a bit of an art, a sort of ballet where chaos and harmony meet. Once you follow the basic rules, you can become part of the flow and enjoy cruising on 2 wheels along the canals and across the capital of the Netherlands.
