A place where houses are really open and where everyone is welcome!
The smell of sunshine, the sea and of the countryside as well as home made tasty dishes cooked with the experience that only a person who is indeed part of the local tradition can possess.
We are in the South-west of Sardinia, guests in a typical local house in which we are offered home made bread, milk fresh from the cows, flovoursome herbs grown in the fields, honey, olives and genuine juices.
The “Domus Amigas” group, which in Sardinian means “Friendly Houses”, was founded by the association C.S.A. – “Experimental Self-development Centre” as a network of tourism guest houses which is widespread in South-West Sardinia and involves families who have the possibility and desire to join in.
The southern west part of Sardinia is rich in evocative places which range from the dunes of Piscinas in “Costa Verde” (Green coast) to the wonderful Teulada coast, passing by fascinating archeological and mineral sites which are scattered over the whole area. Unexpected forrests and Mediterranean scrub open up to the wonder of who approaches to explore calcareous caves like those in Santadi and Fluminimaggiore, which reveal primordial nature modelled by water.
Before all the thousands of international definitions, hospitality has always been that here. Nowadays, we like to call it sustainable, responsible, ecological, light, with low impact on the environment, because it really does give value to the beauty of the Sardinian sea, mountains and countryside, rediscovering tradition and history, with particular focus on the recent local mine history, so as to conserve, apart from its memory, also the extremely rich heritage passed down from earlier generations, so as to share this with their children and friends.
The association is almost entirely run by females, you should see these wives, mothers, daughters and grandmothers, dedicated to helping others to discover places which are unknown to traditional networks, but also to promote a higher consumption of local products (possibly biological), so as to create a network of relationships between the various local producers (farmers, cattle farmers, craftsmen etc.) and all those who come to stay with B & B families.
“It is our tradition, like for all the people of the Mediterranean, to be open to foreigners, offering the most delicious, tender and special things we can, in this way giving “space and place” back to the soul that has lived in us for centuries”.
The project is not simply that of being a bed and breakfast, but rather part of a wider proposal of self-development of the local community, promoting meetings, exchange and especially growth for both the entire local and guest communities.
Seeing these women in action is really a great experience which fills the senses: come and try it!
