Get hired for your love of London, no experience required
- Global company offers chance to run London tour business and keep the profits
- No experience necessary, just the ability to show off London
- Applications close 29 February 2012
LONDON, 8 February 2012 – Intrepid Urban Adventures, which offers day tours with a difference in more than 80 cities around the world, is offering the chance to run its London business for the rest of 2012 – and keep all the profits – to the person who comes up with the best tour of the capital.
The company is calling for people to submit a photo or video of what they think should be included on the ultimate London tour experience, and is looking for the quirky, hidden gems that only a true Londoner – or someone who loves London like a local – would know about. The company’s current London tours include activities such as lifting a gold bar in the Bank of England, discovering an old operating theatre hidden for more than 100 years, and visiting a circus school.
Entries can be submitted and voted for on the Urban Adventures Facebook page until 29 February, and five lucky finalists will be interviewed for the job in March. The winning applicant will take up the post on 1 May 2012 and will work with a group of experienced guides to run an existing set of tours, as well as leading their own signature London tour.
Last year 1,500 people took a London Urban Adventures tour, but with estimates suggesting there will be up to 11 million visitors to London during July and August for the Olympic Games, and more than a million spectators expected for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Pageant taking place in June 2012, Urban Adventures believes that ticket sales in 2012 will be much higher, and as the winning applicant will keep all profits, the earnings potential could be unlimited.
James Thornton, Intrepid Travel’s General Manager, Global Sales, said: “Whether you’re a school leaver, recent graduate looking for your first break, someone who already works in the tourism industry, or you’re looking to get back into work, running the Urban Adventures London business could be your chance to be your own boss, spend the summer outdoors and make the most of the tourism boom that’s coming to London in 2012. Experience isn’t important, you just need to know London, love London and be passionate about showing it off to as many people as possible.”
According to official figures, the UK’s unemployment rate is at a 17-year high of 8.4%, with 2.69 million people unemployed, although unofficial figures suggest the real number could be as high as 6 million. “The chance to run the Urban Adventures London franchise could be a lifeline to one job-seeker,” adds Thornton.
