Eco-camping in a under canvass in a traditional yurt or a tipi.Deep in the isolated woodland, wilderness of Mid Wales is the totally eco-friendly holiday site of Eco Retreats. They are an organisation that is passionate about responsible tourism and practice what they preach.
Their resort operates on a green practice principle; heavily believing in recycling, low impact provision and the use of nature friendly products. They buy as much as possible locally, keeping trade mileage down to the absolute minimum and ensure that all the products that they use and recommend are completely green goods.
The Eco Retreat provides those stressed from the rigours of modern life with an ideal break, giving you a chance to relax, take things easy and get in-touch with your inner self. They offer healing sessions, yoga and mediation as a way to cleanse the soul but also as an aid to a calmer you.
The site has tipis and a yurt in which guests can spend their time relaxing. The thick canvas tipis are 21′ in diameter and come fully equipped with comfortable double mattress; complete with sheepskin rugs to keep you warm. There is a clay chimera that warms the tipi and a gas cooker on which to prepare your food. The yurt, which is a large tent used on the Russian Steppes is similarly fitted out and provides excellent space for the whole family.
This location in the heart of the Dyfi valley comprises vast tracts of forested scenery, hills and babbling brooks. The area is so remote that there are no houses for at least 2 miles and the site is without electricity, providing you with the perfect escape. Each tipi and the yurt are in their own isolated corner so guests have total, undisturbed tranquillity during their stay.
The area around the Dyfi Valley is ideal for outdoor adventure, hiking and exploring. There are opportunities for rock climbing, canyoning or canoeing. Cadair Idris one of Wales’s highest peaks is not far away and the depths of King Arthur’s Labyrinth are waiting for you to descend into. Around the valleys you will also find many wonderful craft studios and galleries showing off plenty of local jewellery, pottery and leatherwork.
What could be more back to nature than staying in a wigwam, drawing your water from a stream, sitting around wood fire and sleeping under sheepskin rugs. This has to be eco tourism at its best.
