Where do you want to go?

Sanibel Island - Florida

Sanibel Island is an island located on the Gulf coast of Florida. With the city of Sanibel incorporating the entire island and with a population of just over 6,000, it is the perfect sunshine hideaway for any ecotourist looking to relax and soak up some rays. Most of the city proper is concentrated on the east side of the island, leaving the rest mostly free fof traffic - human or otherwise.

There is nonetheless plenty for the green traveller to see and do on the island, and if looking for a place to stay then look no further than the Holiday Inn Sanibel Island Beach Resort, which is a glory hole for all things ecotourism.

For a little environmentally friendly adventure, then why not check out the Great Calusa Blueway - a gorgeous canoe/kayaking trail winding through the pristine waters of Sanibel Island and Fort Myers Beach.

Or why not check out the J.N. Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge and enjoy untouched wildlife and some of the world's best bird watching among the mangroves and grass meadows of this renowned Sanibel Island nature refuge.

Better yet, enjoy an eco-safari with Everglades Day Safari. Here, you can let trained naturalists guide you through the famous Florida Everglades and experience wildlife in its natural habitat. Safaris include a scenic boat ride, nature walk and drive, an airboat ride and a Southern-style lunch.

All in all, Sanibel Island is a must for any ecotourist who finds themselves in Florida and there are plenty of green adventures to be had.
