The Grand Canyon - Hiking through one of the seven natural wonders of the world

grand canyon

One of the 7 natural wonders of the world, the Grand Canyon is one of those places every eco-tourist should visit at least once. However, at 277 miles long, you couldn't be blamed for not knowing where to start. So here are a few tips to consider before travelling to the Bright Angel.

The South Rim; whilst you can approach the Canyon from north or south, most people approach from the south as it can be accessed at all times of the year, during the winter season the north isn't all that hospitable and so best avoided.

Hualapai Visitor Centre and Skywalk; The Skywalk is a wonderful way to view the canyon but perhaps not for those who aren't comfortable with heights. 4000 feet above the canyon it juts out over the cliff and being made of glass, will give you the best view of the canyon without resorting to a helicopter trip.

There are numerous guided tours available, but one that particularly appeals is the guided bicycle tour. The Bright Angel bicycle tour will allow you to get a great view of the canyon while listening to an expert impart his knowledge, all without getting in a car or a bus.

If you fancy something a little different, or for that matter, just don't want to spend your trip riding a bike, then why not opt for the Mule Trip. The Mule trip is extremely popular so if this is something you are considering, then you will definitely want to book well in advance.

Hualapai Ranch is a good spot to lay your head whilst visiting the canyon. As well as good accommodation you can organise a guide from the ranch, as well as a host of other activities, ranging from cowboy demonstrations to gun fighting shows.

The Grand Canyon National Park is becoming increasingly eco-friendly and this site is definitely worth a visit before planning your trip.
