Petra - Jordan

Petra in Jordan is one of those places that have to be seen to be believed. The giant red mountains and vast mausoleums are one of the true wonders of the world carved over centuries out of nature by man. It is a truly unique city built by the industrious Nabataeans more than 2000 years ago, where it was used as a trade junction for silk and spice, and linked the trade routes of China, India with Egypt, Greece and Rome, all of whose influences can still be seen in the remains.

Lapland - Finland

Longji Rice Terrace - China

Village elders have a saying in Longsheng: where there is soil there is a terrace. Two hours ride from the city of Guilin in Guanxi province, the problem of growing rice on steep hills was long ago solved by cutting long terraces, like giant round staircases, directly into the hills, and there has been a rice harvest every year since that time long ago in the thirteenth century.

The Great Wall of China

The Great Wall of China is a site of great interest to the Ecotourist, and surely on every Green Traveller's bucket list. One of the New 7 Wonders of the World, it took nearly 2000 years to build and measures in at a staggering 5500 miles in length. What's more, it's the only man made structure that can be seen from space. But, to fully appreciate its magnificence, you'll need to get up close.

Aogashima Volcano - Japan

Still considered an active volcano, the last eruption of Aogashima was way back in 1781 and lasted four years through to 1785. The island of Aogashima is a volcanic Japanese island in the Philippine Sea and located approximately 358 kilometers (222 mi) south of Tokyo. With a population of just 205, it is the most isolated inhabited island of the Izu Archipelago.

Ha Long Bay - Vietnam

Meaning literally 'descending dragon bay', Ha Long Bay in Vietnam is a UNESCO World Heritage site located in the Quang Linh Province. The Bay has an area around 1,553 km2, including 1,960-2,000 islets, most of which are limestone. The limestone in this bay has gone through 500 million years of formation in different conditions and environments, and as a result has created an enormously rich biodiversity, and is home to 14 endemic floral species, and 60 endemic faunal species. A truly staggering place.

Crystal Caves - Iceland

One of the world's most stunning natural wonders, the centuries old ice coming down the slopes of ?raefaj?kull via the Sv?nafellsj?kull glacier Iceland has had almost all of the air pressed out of it, turning the ice into a positively magical blue that has to be seen to be believed.

Carlsbad caverns New Mexico

Carlsbad Caverns is a National Park in the Guadalupe Mountains in Southeast New Mexico. The caverns form a network of more than 117 known caves, all formed when sulfuric acid dissolved the surrounding limestone. One of the most impressive attractions of these caverns is the large cave chamber known as the Big Room. Carved out of natural limestone, the Big Room is almost 4,000 feet (1,220 m) long, 625 feet (191 m) wide, and 255 feet (78 m) high at the highest point. It is the third largest chamber in North America and the seventh largest in the world.
